No shit, Sherlock! Dredd's effects even looked good in 3D when I watched it on the big screen, which is a definite first. The slow motion scenes with flying objects (especially shards of glass) were amazing!

Dredd was meh, hit and miss.
Since you brought up movies, I'm in the process of watching The Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, and Evil Dead, all in a row.

The new one could've done a lot more with the psychic cop messing with people's heads. I don't really remember any other scene otherwise.

Dredd was okay.
As far as remakes I have seen recently, I thought Total Recall was good. Of course, the original was great and any action movie with Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale I would think is at least okay. The main bad guy was the dad from Malcom in the Middle, which I found weird, as I always found the mom scarier as a kid.
